Gethin Jones left floored over huge BBC Casualty update ‘no one told me’

BBC Casualty star Neet Mohan appeared on Morning Live on Thursday to chat about the show’s 40th anniversary

BBC Morning Live presenter Gethin Jones couldn’t believe the news.

During the latest episode, Gethin, 48, and Michelle Ackerley chatted to Casualty star Neet Mohan, who portrays Doctor Rash Masum, ahead of the show’s 40th anniversary.

Casualty, which has been produced at Cardiff’s BBC Roath Lock Studios since 2011, is also set to relocate to a new fictional Welsh hospital next year.

And during Thursday’s conversation, Welsh presenter Gethin couldn’t help but quiz Neet, 40, about the development, reports Wales Online.

Gethin said: “Speaking of being the location, what’s happening with, the hospital’s moving, you’re moving from Holby City, are you down in Cardiff?”.

To which Neet confirmed: “We are, yes, absolutely, Cardiff!” with Gethin asking: “Where are you moving to, what’s going on?”. This prompted the actor to explain: “So it’s going to be set in Cardiff, which is great, and I can’t say any more than that, but it’s a really exciting time.”

Poking fun at her co-host, Michelle, 42, quipped: “As a man of Cardiff, how did you not know?” with a stunned Gethin responding: “No one’s told me!”

The beloved BBC One medical drama, which holds the record as the world’s longest-running series of its type, will mark the milestone this weekend with a special two-part storyline.

Casualty’s 40th anniversary episode, the opening instalment, will broadcast this Saturday 5 September. A synopsis hints: “Lives hang in the balance as a huge firebomb lights up the skies of Holby.”

A more detailed teaser reveals: “The gripping, anniversary event centres on a high-stakes major incident that throws Holby into chaos. Lives hang in the balance, and the ED team are pushed to their limits in a tense and emotionally charged story that brings together some of the show’s most beloved characters.

“As the fallout continues, a major rescue operation unfolds, forcing impossible life-or-death decisions and testing the courage, resilience and leadership of those at the heart of the hospital.”

It adds: “The anniversary episodes celebrate 40 years of Casualty while signalling an exciting new chapter, demonstrating the ambition, storytelling and emotional impact at the heart of the series.”
