It’s finally real: Gremlins 3 is officially happening. After years of development hell (if only there was a name for creatures who could be blamed for such problems in the system) the Mogwai – and presumably, their Gremlin counterparts – will be returning to cinema screens for the first time since 1990’s unhinged Gremlins 2: The New Batch. And to prove it, we have a very, very short teaser, just a teeny-tiny taste – but one that offers your very first look at Gizmo’s comeback:
There’s not much to go on there – but boy, does it feel good to see our favourite Mogwai back in action. For the deep Gremlins fans, there is something notable in Gizmo’s appearance, which looks closer to the original Chris Walas design in the original film than the tweaked Rick Baker design in The New Batch. Details on Gremlins 3 are scarce, but the film will be directed by Chris Columbus, who penned the first movie, with Steven Spielberg back as producer. Columbus has worked on the script with Final Destination: Bloodlines directors Zach Lipovsky and Adam B. Stein.
It’s currently unknown whether Zach Galligan will return – but given that he reacted to the teaser with a ‘looking eyes’ emoji, we can speculate that Billy Peltzer might be involved in the mayhem.
What we do know is, there’s a bit of a longer wait than expected. Gremlins 3 has a new release date of October 6, 2028 – having previously been expected in November 2027. But hey, we’ve waited this long already. Let the carnage commence!
