Amul milk appearing in Costco stores across the US has an interesting story behind it.
The Indian dairy giant is not shipping milk all the way from India. Instead, Amul has partnered with the Michigan Milk Producers Association, a century-old American dairy cooperative, to produce the milk locally in the United States.
Under the arrangement, American farmers supply the milk, while MMPA provides the local dairy infrastructure and production support. Amul contributes its technology, formulation and brand.
The result is Amul Gold 6% milk, now available in Costco refrigerators in the US.
The partnership shows a smart model for taking an Indian food brand global without relying on long-distance imports.
By producing locally and selling under a trusted Indian brand, Amul is combining American dairy resources with its own product expertise.
In simple terms, the strategy is clear: make it locally, brand it globally.
