Jaclyn Smith revealed that her first husband, actor Roger Davis, cheated on her with their real estate agent in her new memoir, “I Once Knew a Guy Named Charlie.”
In the book, the “Charlie’s Angels” actress recalled learning about the affair two years into her and Davis’ marriage from Laura’s husband, Bill, after he tried to make a pass at Smith.
Smith, now 80, said she confronted Laura, who came clean about the affair.
“I couldn’t imagine how two people I trusted could have betrayed me, and for so long,” she wrote in her book. “Laura was telling me to my face what she’d done, but I still couldn’t believe it.”
Some time before Laura’s confession, Smith was walking in New York City with a friend to see an apartment that she and Davis were thinking about renting when they ran into Warren Beatty, who asked Smith to audition for a movie he was working on.
Davis suddenly appeared in front of the group, Smith recalled, and told Beatty that his then-wife couldn’t be in his movie because she only did commercials.
Smith later learned from Laura that while she was chatting with Beatty, Davis was upstairs having sex with Laura in the apartment.
But Smith said when she confronted Davis about the affair, he denied it and blamed Bill.
“Laura’s just jealous. She’s always coming on to me, but of course I’m not sleeping with her,” Davis allegedly told Smith.
“You know, Bill probably wanted to sleep with you, and this is their game.”
Ultimately, Smith decided to stay with Davis.
“Denial, I discovered, can be seductive,” she wrote in her memoir. “At that moment, blind belief was easier than truth. And some truths must be seen to be believed.”
She added, “My options were to leave Roger then, after only two years of marriage, and feel humiliated by my own naïveté, or to give the man I loved the benefit of the doubt and hope I’d made the right decision. I chose the latter.”
However, the couple’s marriage fell apart two years later, when Smith found Davis in bed with another woman on their fourth wedding anniversary.
Smith and Davis were married from 1968, the same year they met, to 1975.
The Golden Globe nominee went on to wed actor Dennis Cole in 1978, but they got divorced in 1981 after she found out he was cheating.
Smith’s third marriage was to cinematographer Anthony B. Richmond, whom she met on the set of the 1980 film “Nightkill” They welcomed two children, son Gaston, and daughter Spencer-Margaret, before their divorce in 1989.
Since 1997, Smith has been married to her fourth husband, cardiothoracic surgeon Brad Allen
