One month ago, Jane Remover issued an ultimatum to M3F Fest: Drop the Israeli alt-rock trio Temper City or they would no longer perform at next year’s event. “yo get that idf band off the lineup or I’m not playing,” the genre-blurring experimental pop artist posted on Instagram Stories on Aug. 5. Tonight, the Phoenix festival, which is scheduled for March 5 and 6, officially announced an updated 2027 lineup, and Jane Remover has been removed.
Flying Lotus has taken Jane Remover’s place on the new poster, but M3F has not addressed the reason for the change. Temper City have also not commented on the situation.
The LA-based Temper City have only two songs out, and the first one, “Self Aware,” was a massive TikTok hit earlier this year. It was released by the indie Thirty Knots in partnership with TikTok’s own distribution and promotion platform SoundOn, and it topped Billboard’s Alternative Airplay chart in July.
Israeli army service is mandatory for most Israeli citizens around age 18, and US-born frontman Eytan Peled, at least, has publicly acknowledged his background in the Israel Defense Forces. Speaking with the Israeli publication Frogi in 2022, he credited his military service with helping him develop his language skills and self-confidence. “My military service really built me up and made me realize that I strongly believe in actively leaving my comfort zone,” Peled also said, according to a translation of the interview.
Prior to releasing music as Temper City, Peled and his bandmates Chen Kordova and Aviv Barenholtz (the production duo Sync) worked behind the scenes with artists like Barns Courtney and Zeds Dead. They are readying their debut album and are on the lineup for Austin City Limits next month. Jane Remover’s LIVE EXHIBIT North American headline tour resumes in Minneapolis next week.
