R&B singer-songwriter Jhené Aiko has unveiled her new album, ‘Westside Whimsy’, via ALLEL/Artclub/Def Jam Recordings.
The dense 20-track collection serves as a love letter to Aiko’s hometown of Los Angeles and it features LA natives Kendrick Lamar, Larry June, Ab-Soul, Tyga and OHMA.
Aiko invites listeners into a world shaped by love, vulnerability, healing, and the unpredictable nature of life.
In a recent interview with Complex, Aiko described that the album as “laid-back”, heavily influenced by ’90s music, and inspired by her hometown in California, West Coast and surf culture.
“When I think of California, it’s just such a magical place and I love a good road trip and I’ve been doing them for many years,” Aiko said.
The project honours a decade-plus career that has established Aiko as one of this generation’s most influential voices in R&B and modern soul. It follows her Platinum-certified debut album ‘Souled Out’ to acclaimed projects including ‘Trip’ and ‘Chilombo’.
Tune in now.
