Kirstie Allsopp has revealed that she was rushed to hospital after a horror fall on her birthday trip. The Location, Location, Location host, 55, jetted to Devon with her loved ones – husband Ben Andersen and sons Oscar and Bay – to ring in her big day.
However, taking to Instagram, she revealed that their getaway ended up in jeopardy when she slipped on a path, and needed emergency treatment.
Alongside a string of photos and videos from her hospital bed – including a video of the air ambulance coming to the rescue, and a wince-inducing scan of her leg – she wrote: “Almost every year since Oscar was born we have celebrated my birthday at Meadowgate, one of my favourite places on earth.
“We have a picnic on the beach at Welcombe Mouth, a swim and a walk back to the house for some cake. Unfortunately I slipped on a muddy patch on the steep path, and it took a whole host of people to get me to hospital.
“After a little wait while poor Oscar ran as fast as he could to get help, and the @rnli_bude_lifeboat paramedics & @cornwallairamb tracked me down (I [heart] #whatthreewords).
“I was given a huge amount of painkillers so I omitted to ask anyone for their social media details but if this post is wrong I hope someone will tell me.”
She added: “God only knows what I was like to deal with high as a kite! Everyone at Barnstaple hospital has been amazing, kind & caring, so many lovely people doing their absolute best.
“They have operated on the leg and I’ll be home soon. It’ll be a boot and crutches for a while but I feel very, very lucky that it was possible to reach me and get me to hospital so quickly, and I have a job that I can do on crutches.
“Not a birthday I am going to forget in a hurry and again, THANK YOU to all those who have been involved in my care.”
Kirstie’s post was quickly flooded with messages of support from followers, urging her to make a speedy recovery. One said: “Oh my poor you. Thank goodness you were located and rescued by our brilliant emergency services.Sending love and healing hugs.”
“Oh no! Sorry to hear this! Wishing you all the best as you recover,” a fan penned, while another agreed: “Wishing you a really speedy recovery & sending a big hug to you & your family.”
“Puts a whole new meaning to celebrating a birthday with a bang @kirstiemallsopp hope you heal and recover very soon,” an Instagram user replied.
“Oh bless you sorry to hear you have had a fall, we hope that you recover very soon and thank you to all our emergency services for all they do, all the air ambulances do a fab job and thank heavens! Please take care and hope you are back home soon,” a commenter added.
Kirstie and Ben first met in 2004 and quickly became close – they went on to welcome eldest child Bay in 2006, before adding to their brood with Oscar in 2008. The Love It Or List It host is also stepmother to Ben’s sons, Hal and Orion, from a previous relationship.
In January 2024, the couple stunned fans when they confirmed that they had secretly tied the knot in a private ceremony, after 20 years of dating.
Despite initially keeping their nuptials under wraps, she later told Yours Magazine: “I think we told the children about the wedding on Christmas Day. Mostly, though, nobody knew until the Monday and then we got married on the Thursday.
“I’ve got strong views on weddings and, in the end, it turns out it was me who wasn’t so wild about it!”
“But it was four o’clock so nobody had to take the time off work or worry about outfits, they just wore what they had,” she added. “There was no hen night, or any of that, and it was fabulous.”
