Today’s special Nintendo Direct dedicated to the 40th anniversary of The Legend of Zelda has fans in an excited frenzy. Nintendo is set to showcase the future of one of gaming’s most iconic franchises, as well as commemorating its decorated past.
The Zelda-themed Direct today (Tuesday, September 8) is expected to deliver major news, including more information about the upcoming Ocarina of Time remake. Confirmed for launch on Nintendo Switch 2 later this year, fans and insiders are expecting a firm release date, a trailer and possible pre-order information. Although a new mainline Zelda game announcement is unlikely, there will be plenty more to get excited about.
Nintendo has been typically coy about the details of the Direct, but leaks have hinted at commemorative 40th anniversary hardware like a special edition console and more being in the works. There’s also the small matter of the mysterious live action movie set for release in April 2027.
