Work must take place at the store to ensure the building is safe
A Co-op Food store has closed after a “significant” amount of rain leaked through its roof.
The supermarket near Coalville, in Ibstock’s Ashby Road, has been affected following the heavy storms in the area.
LeicestershireLive understands that the leak occurred sometime on Friday morning (August 28).
Repair works must be completed to ensure the building is safe and contractors are currently at the site “working to resolve the issues”.
While the food store itself has been impacted, the Co-op Travel branch which is located inside the unit is open as normal.
In a statement, a spokesperson for Central Co-op Food said: “Our Ibstock Food store was affected by significant water ingress following the heavy storms in the area and has been temporarily closed while we carry out the necessary work to make the store safe.
“Contractors are currently on site and we are working to resolve the issues as quickly as possible.
“The store will remain closed until we are satisfied it is safe to reopen.”
The food retailer has apologised for any inconvenience caused by the closure, as it is unclear when the store will reopen at this time.
The spokesperson added: “At this stage, we are unable to confirm when the store will reopen, but we will provide an update as soon as we can.
“We apologise to members and customers for the inconvenience and thank them for their patience.”
