The Corner Pin in Long Eaton is currently closed
A community pub has closed its doors after the departure of its manager. The hunt is now under way for a new landlord to run the Corner Pin, in Market Place, Long Eaton.
A sign showing the pub was available for lease went up several weeks before its closure at the end of August.
It had previously been run by manager Luke Saunders, who in December last year said the pub often stayed empty in the evenings after his regulars had gone home.
“There are no new people coming, it always stays the same,” he said.
Restoration work to improve the pedestrianised high street is currently under way around the pub, but Luke’s belief was that the £10m scheme wouldn’t make a difference to Long Eaton.
“It needs less boarded up shops so more people come here, and for that the money would best be used on lowering business rates,” said Luke, adding that someone should take a wrecking ball to the town.
In total, Erewash Borough Council plans to invest £10m into the high street. The major project is set to bring new greenery and benches and reduce vehicle access.
The Corner Pin is owned by Star Pubs. A company spokesperson said: “We are keen to reopen The Famous Corner Pin as soon as possible and are actively recruiting a new operator to that end.”
The pub is being advertised with an annual rent of £13,572 and an estimated yearly turnover of £154,816.
