Series about a bizarre hypnotism case at a US school
Certificate: 15
It’s the kind of bizarre true story that if it were a film you just wouldn’t believe it. In small-town America, in the Florida town of North Port, George Kenney was a popular high school principal who was hypnotising his students. His aim was apparently to help them with anxiety and pain management, to get better grades or to win football games, but when three students died within months of each other, just days after being hypnotised, Kenney skipped town.
This four-part series hears from former students of North Port High School and friends of the dead students as they recall the strange events surrounding their deaths, as well as from Kenney himself. It paints a picture of a shocked and grieving community reaching for answers, while Kenney’s motives are treated with suspicion. Was he really just a devoted teacher trying to do right by his students? The alternative is perhaps too sinister to be believed. (Four episodes)
