Elijah Wood is set to reprise his iconic role as Frodo Baggins in The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum. The upcoming Middle-earth adventure has now offered fans a new glimpse at the returning character. The first look arrives as anticipation continues to build around the film.
The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum’s first peek at Frodo
Warner Bros. has offered the first glimpse of Elijah Wood’s return as Frodo Baggins in The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum. The newly released set photos also show the Shire, although Frodo is seen only from behind, keeping Wood’s face out of view.
Wood is among several actors from the earlier Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit movies returning for the upcoming action epic. Andy Serkis will once again portray Gollum and is also directing the film. Ian McKellen is returning as Gandalf, while Lee Pace will reprise his role as Thranduil from The Hobbit films. The movie will also introduce new characters played by Kate Winslet and Leo Woodall.
The story of the upcoming film will be set between The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings trilogies. The film will follow Aragorn and Gandalf as they search for Gollum. Aragorn is tasked with tracking him down to prevent Sauron from discovering the location of the One Ring. It also follows Aragorn during his early years as a ranger.
Speaking about the film previously, McKellen said, “But the script is designed to appeal to people who like Lord of the Rings. It’s an adventure story, Aragorn trying to find Gollum with Gandalf directing operations from the sidelines,” he said.
The Hunt for Gollum is currently filming in New Zealand, and it is scheduled to be released in theaters on December 17, 2027.
