MAFS star Ella Morgan became emotional as she candidly addressed her struggles with fame and explained why she had to take a step back from things due to her mental health
Ella Morgan became emotional as she candidly addressed her struggles with fame. The reality star, 32, who made history as the first trans bride to appear on Married At First Sight, took to social media with a new video after a lengthy absence to open up on one of the “hardest years” of her life so far.
Ella, who appeared on MAFS in 2023 and “married” JJ Slater before he went on to have a now-defunct relationship with Katie Price, was on the verge of tears as she revealed she had relapsed into an eating disorder and just wants others to understand that, behind all the fame, she is still just an ordinary person.
Speaking in a video posted to Instagram, she said: “This year, without doubt, has probably been one of the hardest years of my life mentally. A lot of things have contributed to that, but I’m not ready to go into every single detail yet. One of the biggest things I have been dealing with is my mental health, anxiety, depression and bulimia. I relapsed with my bulimia earlier this year, and it’s something I have struggled with for a huge part of my life.

“I think for a long time I felt I had to hide things like that and talking about mental health because online it can look like I have this glamorous life, and yes I’m incredibly grateful for so many things that have happened to me.
“But really, behind all of this, I am just a person, and part of me felt like there was a cost of having these experiences, and were they really worth it because of how they made me feel. And I am blessed to have this life and everything I’ve always wanted but part of me does wonder if it was at a cost of my mental health. I don’t want to pretend anymore. I’ve had periods of feeling really low, not seeing light at the end of the tunnel. I’ve lost confidence, felt like I’ve not wanted to be here and that I’ve not been deserving of anything.
The former Celebs Go Dating star, who will also be seen on the upcoming series of Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins, also shared that she is a carer for her nan, so that has taken up much of her time and has now decided to put her own mental health first.
She said: “My light has been dimmed. I’ve dealt with intense periods of anxiety and had major imposter syndrome. I’ve been trying to navigate all of this whilst being in the public eye and on top of that I’m a carer for my nan. My nan is 93. This year, I’ve had to turn down work and take a step back and put her first. I’m putting my own mental health first too.
“So I took a huge step back. I know from the outside it looked like I’d disappeared but I’ve just been trying to put myself back together. Since I entered the public eye, my life has changed drastically and I don’t think people understand how difficult it is to be constantly visible, be a trans advocate and a role model whilst simultaneously work out who I am, where I’m going and what I want in life.”
The TV star was supported by many of her 250,000 followers in the comments section of her post, with one writing: “Massive hugs coming your way!! One day at a time and when that feels like too much, take it an hour at a time xx”
Another said: “You’re amazing, but even amazing people need to put themselves first xx wishing you so much love and hope you start to see the sunny days soon, even if the rain puts some rainbows in the way xx you are a queen, just straighten that crown xxxxx”
Former Love Island star Georgia Harrison also sent her support as she said: “You’re a light whenever I see you xxxxx Sending you so much love, Ella xxxx we love you.”
