Maria Sten revealed during a Screen Rant Coffee Chats interview that the emotional handshake scene between Neagley and Reacher required only about three takes to successfully film on set.
As a result, Sten and co-star Alan Ritchson captured the pivotal moment quickly due to their long working relationship on the franchise. The actress described the process as “very sort of natural” for both performers.

However, Sten admitted she initially felt worried about how to approach the scene. She recognized its significance for her character, stating, “she’s being brave and she’s choosing to trust this person with this moment.” The actress added that she felt “there was just a lot at stake” for Neagley in that particular scene.
Meanwhile, the handshake holds deep meaning within the Reacher universe for Neagley’s character. Fans of the series know that Neagley has severe personal issues around physical contact. Sten previously acknowledged these challenges, noting that her character “has a history, and she has a life lived.”
Despite this, the simplicity of the filming process contrasted with the scene’s emotional weight. The crew covered Sten’s angle first, then Ritchson’s, and wrapped the scene efficiently. Their established on-screen chemistry allowed them to deliver the moment without extensive rehearsal or multiple attempts.
Neagley premiered on Amazon Prime Video on September 16, 2026, with all eight episodes releasing simultaneously. The spin-off series explores Frances Neagley’s life as a Chicago-based private investigator. Alan Ritchson appears in the show as a guest star, reprising his role as Jack Reacher alongside the new cast.
