Formula 1 driver Max Verstappen attempts to overtake 100 go-karts live at Silverstone

Formula 1 drivers are the best of the best and four-time world champion Max Verstappen is near the top of even that elite pack. So a live race that pits him against 100 racing amateurs has the feel of one of those ridiculous man-vs-predator Shark Week documentaries. No competition, surely?
Max vs 100 is tougher than that, though. Verstappen starts at the back of a grid of 101 go-karters on a custom-built circuit at Silverstone and must overtake every single one of his rivals to win.
Like many F1 drivers, Verstappen started in go-karts and seems to relish the chance to go back to basics and watch, as he puts it, ‘the carnage unfold in front of me’. We’ll be able to tell how he actually feels about it when it’s under way, as he can communicate with his rivals during the race.
Those other drivers include a smattering of streamers, and athletes such as German ultrarunner Arda Saatçi and British mountain biker Matt Jones. The broadcast is hosted by Mo Gilligan and will feature the kind of fun, in-race data that accompanies F1.
It’s all showing live on Disney+ from 5pm, with the race itself starting at 6pm.
