There’s Lilibet riding her bike and Archie running alongside her, shouting, “Go! Go!” Then there’s Prince Harry fishing with his children, Meghan Markle jumping into a puddle in her boots, a roaring fireplace, walks in the countryside. And then there are two emojis, a British flag and a red heart, that say more than any caption about this new chapter in the Sussex family’s life. Meghan has shared, for the first time, glimpses of life in England since returning to the United Kingdom with Prince Harry and their children, Archie, seven, and Lilibet, five. In a short video posted on social media, the Duchess of Sussex compiled images of everyday family life, accompanied by a soundtrack: “Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go” by Wham!
But it’s Archie who really catches the eye. While his sister rides her bike, the little boy cheers her on, and in the few words he speaks, a distinct British accent is evident. It’s a small but significant detail now that the brother and sister have started attending school in the United Kingdom.
Harry and Meghan made their return to the UK on August 26, six years after moving to California following their decision to step back from their roles as working royals, or active members of the royal family. This is not, however, a return to the court. In fact, the Sussexes have chosen a private, nonroyal residence as their base in Britain and will keep their homes in California and Portugal. Archie and Lilibet are said to have been at the heart of their decision to return. According to People, Harry and Meghan’s priority in these first few weeks has been to allow the children to settle in and start school smoothly. “Everything else will fall into place when the time is right,” a source close to the couple told People. “There is a lot to do. They have just moved halfway across the world, and it’s been really busy getting the kids settled. Their focus has been on that, and will remain on that, for the time being. They are happy to be back.”
