The former Python embarks on a 2,500-mile journey

Imagine being in your early 80s and making a TV show that involves travelling 2,500 miles, to a country with vigilante ‘death squads’ – a third of which is on the UK Foreign Office ‘do not travel’ list.
It sounds exhausting but former Python Sir Michael Palin seems to relish the experience for this colourful new three-parter, which tracks his intrepid travels across the islands of the Philippines. It’s an idyllic tropical paradise that, as the ‘death squad’ detail above implies, has a significant dark side – one that Michael, of course, is keen to explore.
He begins in the capital city of Manila, at a political protest march marking the 40th anniversary of the day when President Ferdinand Marcos and his wife Imelda – she of the many shoes – were kicked out of power after 21 years. Their son, Bongbong Marcos, has since become President of the Philippines. (Three episodes)
