It received the prestigious rating nine months after opening
A restaurant with a deep-rooted philosophy of championing local ingredients has been shortlisted by you for our Leics Eat awards.
John’s House, a fine dining restaurant in Loughborough Road, Mountsorrel, opened its doors in 2014.
Nine months after opening, it received a Michelin star, a prestigious rating awarded to restaurants for outstanding food.
The restaurant, owned by John Duffin, is located inside a 16th Century farmhouse on the grounds of Stonehurst Farm, which is owned by the Duffin family.
John’s House is centred around a farm-to-plate philosophy with much of its produce sourced from the farm.
The restaurant is open Wednesday to Saturday with a three-course lunch menu, five-course tasting menu and seven-course tasting menu served.
Among the items currently featured on the seasonally changing menu are charred Cornish mackerel with oyster and jalapeño, and Stonehurst Leicester longwool hogget with burnt tomato ketchup and vegetables.
Lunch options comprise several dishes such as ham hock with chilled tomato soup, mint and goats cheese, and Cornish cod with brassicas, English mustard and smoked roe.
Helen, a staff member at John’s House, said: “John opened his restaurant in 2014, on the family farm in Mountsorrel, Leicestershire.
“He gained his Michelin Star just nine months later in 2015.
“The menu at John’s House changes with the seasons and John champions a ‘farm-to-plate’ philosophy, sourcing local British ingredients, many of which originate on the family farm.
“We are thrilled to be shortlisted for best restaurant by your readers.”
John’s House was selected alongside two other locations in our Leics Eat awards which strive to celebrate the very best food and drink across the county.
