Miles Morales Unveils Official Redesign As Marvel’s New ‘Scarlet Spider’

This article covers a developing story. Continue to check back with us as we will be adding more information as it becomes available.

Marvel reveals a new version of Miles Morales, who can now transform into a Scarlet Spider form at will. While he possesses roughly the same basic abilities as Peter Parker, Miles possesses bio-electrokinesis and camouflage, which give him an edge in battle. Besides his unique powers, Miles also represents a modern, multicultural Brooklyn, raised by a supportive, living family that shapes his perspective on his community and allows him to adapt to the pressures of being a superhero.

What truly separates Miles from every other Spider-Man across the Spider-Verse is his struggle with the weight of legacy. Unlike most Spider-variants who work as the sole protectors of their universes, Miles often has to step into a mantle that was originally defined by someone else, which forces him to answer whether he’s merely a replacement or a hero in his own right. His journey centers on discovering how to wear the mask on his own terms without being crushed by the expectations of the Spider-Men who came before him.

Miles Morales’ unique meta-narrative makes him the ultimate symbol of reinvention, as he constantly proves that anyone can wear the Spider-Man mask while remaining fiercely authentic to themselves. This is part of why Marvel’s new version of Miles Morales is so compelling, as he now steps into the title of another iconic Spider-Man.

Marvel’s new Mangaverse officially launches with the release of Marvel Mangaverse: Web of Blood #1, which introduces a new version of several icons. Laura Kinney a.k.a. X-23 is now powered by Weapon X-Tremis, which covers her body in large eyes, and Nick Fury leads the Ultimate Avengers, a group of robotic versions of several of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. Meanwhile, the Mangaverse’s Miles Morales debuts with a stylish new suit, plus a Scarlet Spider transformation he can tap into in the middle of battle, spawning red lightning-like energy around his face.

Similarly to how Dragon Ball‘s Saiyan Z-Warriors can transform into a variety of Super Saiyan forms or Naruto‘s titular ninja can tap into the Nine-Tails Fox’s energy, the Marvel Mangaverse’s Miles Morales accesses his inner rage to unleash a great source of mystical energy, which manifests as energy tendrils that resemble huge spider legs. Since Miles is surrounded by electric red energy, he starts calling himself “Scarlet Spider.” So far, the original Scarlet Spider from Earth-616, Ben Reilly, has yet to be introduced in this continuity.
