Olivia Rodrigo Slams Cornell And “Every Institution Who Protects Rapists”

In August, Olivia Rodrigo raised $20 million for women’s rights with her inaugural Daisy Chain Fields festival. Now, the pop star is the latest musician to condemn Cornell amid the rape lawsuit that involves seven Cornell fraternity brothers allegedly drugging and gang raping a young woman in 2024.

“Shame on Cornell and on every institution who protects rapists and abusers over women,” her statement on her Instagram Story begins. “I stand with Jane Doe. Her bravery reverberates across the country and the crimes against her will not go unpunished. What she lived through matters, and so does the failure of those who could have intervened but chose not to. She deserves answers, consequences, and lasting change.”

On Sunday (Oct. 4), LA dream-pop band Sunday (1994) played Austin City Limits and singer Paige Turner held up a sign that read, “CASTRATE THE CORNELL SEVEN.” On Thursday (Oct. 1), Frank Iero wore a shirt that said “RAPISTS OF CORNELL ROT IN HELL” during his L.S. Dunes set. On Wednesday (Sept. 30), Lzzy Hale posted a statement on Instagram:

If you are the kind of man who thinks it’s ok to reduce another human being to nothing more than something you can stick your d*ck into…there is something severely wrong with you. You are not a “promising young man”, you are a sick monster that needs to be punished and prevented from having contact with other humans. And if you are the kind of man who stands idly by while witnessing a r*pe (yes even if you saw it in a group chat you are still a witness to that r*pe), and choose to do nothing/say nothing…you are Not “the good guy” you are an accessory to the sexual assault and also need to be brought to justice, because we don’t want your kind walking among us either.

And if you are in a position of power to hold these men accountable for their actions and do nothing, take their side, or let them off with a fucking “writing assignment”, you should be stripped of your power and privilege of walking among us.
