Did you know that there are ‘Seven Wonders of Wales, and that one of them is just 90 minutes from Birmingham?
The beauty spots are listed in a short, anonymous poem written by a tourist in the 18th-century and helpfully titled the ‘Seven Wonders of Wales’.
They include a mountain, a bridge, a waterfall, an ancient tree, a well, a steeple and church bells.

One of the wonders is in Wrexham in the north-east of Wales, which is an easy drive or train ride from Brum.
It is coined as ‘Wrexham steeple’ in the poem and refers to the tower of St Giles’ Parish Church, according to Visit Wales.

It stretches more than 130ft (40 metres) into the sky.
The church itself dates back to the late-15th century and is considered one of Wales’s greatest medieval buildings.
You can climb all 149 steps, past the church bells, up to the roof of the tower for incredible views across the countryside over to the Berwyn mountain range.
Well worth a visit for an autumnal day out, this city also boasts a plethora of independent shops and cosy cafés to enjoy whilst sightseeing.

How to get to Wrexham from Birmingham
Traffic permitting, it takes around an hour-and-a-half to get to Wrexham from Birmingham via the A41.
This pretty route takes you through Newport and Whitchurch.
Alternatively, you can get a direct train from Birmingham New Street to Wrexham General in just one hour and 41 minutes.
