Orville Peck has shared his new album ‘Mule’ in full.
Out now, the record is undoubtedly his most honest yet, tackling sexual identity, self-shame, mental health issues, and more. A bold and brave project, Orville recently told the Guardian that ‘Mule’ documents “the most important year of my life”.
Covering heartbreak, grief, and addiction, ‘Mule’ traces Orville’s line through recovery, and it contains moments of potent beauty.
“I still hurt sometimes,” he said, “but now I think I have the courage to face it.”
Built alongside producer Jay Joyce (Patty Griffin, Eric Church) at his Neon Cross Studio in Nashville, sessions utilised a tight-knit crew including Peck’s five-piece full-time band and a handful of guests including Molly Tuttle, Ketch Secor of Old Crow Medicine Show, and Teddy and the Rough Riders.
The opening piece utilises the voices of Noah Cyrus, Allison Russell, and Emmylou Harris – three generations of country queens, harmonising on words Orville Peck wrote.
