Popular Indian restaurant crowned best in Leicester at awards

The team said it is a moment they will ‘cherish forever’

A popular restaurant has been crowned best in Leicester at the Indian Restaurant Summit and Honours 2026.

Staff from Paddy’s Marten Inn, in Martin Street, attended a ceremony in Manchester on Monday, September 21.

The team was left “overwhelmed with pride” after being named Best Indian Restaurant for Leicester.

Once visited by Jamie Oliver, the restaurant celebrated its 30th anniversary this year after opening its doors in 1996.

Its owner, Raj Mashru, took on the business after his parents – Pradip and Amita – retired.

Mr Mashru said: “From serving our guests every day at Paddy’s Marten Inn to standing on the stage at the Indian Restaurant Summit & Honours 2026 and bringing home an award – we are truly overwhelmed with pride and gratitude.

“This award is not just ours. It belongs to our amazing team, our families, our loyal customers, and every single person who has supported Paddy’s Marten Inn along the way.

“Thank you for believing in us. This is a moment we will cherish forever — and hopefully, just the beginning.”

Since opening, Paddy’s Marten Inn has won several awards of which it showcases on a wall inside.

The restaurant has become known for its array of meat-based, seafood and vegetarian dishes and is the only business operating on its street, located in the Belgrave area of the city.
