Princess Eugenie deliberately chose a wedding dress that showcased the scar from her childhood scoliosis surgery. When she married Jack Brooksbank at St. George’s Chapel in Windsor on October 12, 2018, Eugenie wore a low-backed Peter Pilotto and Christopher De Vos gown.
The dress revealed the scar running down her spine. Eugenie developed scoliosis as a child and underwent an eight-hour spinal operation at the age of 12. The surgery left a long, visible scar. Her surgeon, Jan Lehovsky, also attended her wedding. Representatives from the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, where Eugenie had her operation, joined as well.
Eugenie has spoken openly about her scoliosis and scar for years. Before her wedding, she told ITV’s This Morning, “I think you can change the way beauty is, and you can show people your scars and I think it’s really special to stand up for that.”
A few months later, in March 2019, she explained it in an audio recording for her Windsor Castle wedding exhibition. “I believe scars tell a story about your past and your future, and it’s a way of getting rid of a taboo,” Eugenie said. Then, on International Scoliosis Awareness Day in June 2020, she shared a close-up of her scar on Instagram. “Let’s be proud of our scars!” she wrote.
She returned to the subject in 2024. She shared a childhood photo of herself with her mother, Sarah Ferguson, on Instagram. Eugenie thanked Ferguson for giving her “the confidence to be proud of my scar.” She added, “I am forever grateful and wish everyone to be proud of their scars.”
Eugenie is now a mother of three. She already shared two sons, August and Ernest, with Brooksbank before welcoming their first daughter. Eugenie announced the news on Instagram, writing, “Jack and I are so excited to announce Baby Girl Brooksbank!! We are beyond in love with our girlie.”
Their daughter was born on August 3 at a hospital in Lisbon, Portugal. Two weeks later, Eugenie revealed her name, writing on Instagram, “We are so happy to share Adelaide Elizabeth Annina Brooksbank.” Adelaide is 15th in the line of succession to the British throne.
According to Hello!, Eugenie may have returned to Britain to introduce Adelaide to her parents. Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor now lives on the Sandringham estate in Norfolk. Ferguson has also been preparing to return to the U.K. after spending about seven months abroad. She largely stayed out of the public eye in the meantime.
According to People, she is about to return amid the fallout from her past association with Jeffrey Epstein. She would reportedly rent a six-bedroom property in the Home Counties. Recently, Eugenie stepped out in London for the first time since welcoming Adelaide.
She wore black leggings, a loose black top, red sunglasses, and black Nike sneakers. Eugenie tied her hair in a loose bun and added a pendant necklace. A checked shirt was tied around her waist.
