The pick your own pumpkin patches are opening back up ahead of Halloween

A trip to a pumpkin patch has become part of parcel of Halloween for many families and they’re beginnning to open up for the 2026 season.
We have a number of patches and events across the region, but there’s one just on the edge of Greater Manchester that’s been listed among the UK’s best.
Kenyon Hall Farm is in Croft, Warrington, close to the border with Wigan, and hosts an annual Pumpkin Festival which starts this weekend, September 26.

There are some new treats in store this year, including mini wheelbarrows for children to use and new pumpkin-themed games.
The place is known for its photo props to make the ideal backdrop, including an old red Terrorphone telephone box, and there are some new ones this year too.
Tickets sell out quicky for the event – weekend tickets have already sold out – so it’s no surprise that it’s made the list of the best pumpkin patches in the UK from DiscoverCars.com.
“Half an hour’s drive away from Manchester, Kenyon Hall Farm in Warrington is hosting a Pumpkin Festival that is open daily from 26th September, with tickets priced at £3.95 per person, with no entry cost for babies under 18 months,” says the global car rental comparison site.
“50 different varieties of home-grown pumpkins are available. It has plenty of pumpkin displays and photo opportunities. This farm has an award-winning farm shop where you can buy fresh local produce and homemade bread.”
It’s not the only north west site making the list though.
It also features Holmeswood Pumpkin Place in Ormskirk, Lancashire – a family-run farm that grows specialty pumpkins in a chilled-out environment where you can grab a hot drink or a bite to eat.
“It’s dog-friendly so you can bring your pooch too,” says DiscoverCars. “Last year entry was priced at £3, with pumpkins individually priced. They grow a wide variety of pumpkins in all shapes and sizes including orange, white and yellow options. This farm in Ormskirk can be reached by car from Liverpool in an hour, and in half an hour from Preston.”
Aleksandrs Buraks, head of growth at DiscoverCars, said: “Pumpkin patches are a fantastic day out for the whole family. Although pumpkin picking is the main event, our research into the type of events available this year showed that there are also maize mazes to get lost in, craft workshops, and the opportunity to meet adorable farm animals. Tickets for some events are already selling out, especially weekends, so if there’s a pumpkin patch near you, you might want to book your tickets in advance.
“As some of these pumpkin patches are working farms or located in the countryside, driving will probably be your best way of getting there – and if there’s a farm shop on-site, it’ll be easier to get all your shopping home too. It also means you can take your muddy shoes off and stick them in the boot. If you’re bringing your dog, make sure you check the venue’s policy ahead of time.”
