A popular nightclub that has announced it will close after more than three decades in business.
The owners of Chalkies in Long Eaton announced that, after 35 years, they will call last orders on Saturday, January 23.
Father and son owners Chris and Mick Fisher said they were would be pursuing different things. For Mick, 74, retirement looms and for Chris, he will be focusing on his other businesses.
In a statement on Facebook, they said: “After our family running Chalkies for an incredible 35 years, we have had to make a really tough decision and we need to announce that we will be closing our doors for good.
“We and our fantastic customers have all made memories over the years but unfortunately due to many different reasons it’s now time to stop pulling pints, vodka Red Bulls and those Skittle Bombs.
“Our staff over the years both past and present have been amazing, giving up their social time to work a few hours to earn a few quid, although for most I don’t believe this has been their drive, they have become family and good friends. Dealing with the late nights, “drama” and most of all the laughs we have had, we thank you all.
“Our regulars have made the venue like our little community we have made good friends with many of you.
“We have seen next generations grow up and my dad (Mick) even seen the generation before those.
“Every single customer has helped keep the atmosphere over the years and helped provide a venue for people to go on a Friday and Saturday night.”
More than 300 people have reacted to the news on Facebook and shared their memories of the club.
One user said: “Gutted to see this. End of an era for Long Eaton.
“Spent many nights in Chalkies back in the day and it’s mad to think it’s the only place left in Long Eaton for a night out now.
“The place literally hasn’t changed. Same classic dance tunes on repeat.”
Another said: “Had some good nights in Chalkies, will be strange it not being around.
“No more clubs in Long Eaton now, it’s a shame. “
