Reopening date for former Arnold Wetherspoon pub delayed by two months

The delay has been described as a ‘very difficult and disappointing situation’ by the pub’s new operator

A popular Arnold pub, which used to be part of the Wetherspoon chain, has pushed back its opening to November this year.

The Ernehale Pub, on Nottingham Road, which closed as a Wetherspoon in July, was due to reopen on Saturday, September 19, at 8am, just in time for breakfast.

But this date has now been pushed back by over two months to November 21. In a statement released on Facebook, Jamie Thomas, the pub’s new operator, said: “Unfortunately, as things currently stand, we are unable to open the pub just yet.

“Following correspondence I have received from solicitors, I have been informed that we cannot open for a period of four months leaving our opening date 21st November 2026.

“To be completely honest, this was something I was not aware of when I took this on, and it has understandably been a very difficult and disappointing situation to find myself in.”

Jamie Thomas, who also operates The Whitemoor, in Nuthall Road, Nottingham, took over the business after it was put up for sale in February, seeking offers in excess of £400,000.

He saw the pub up for sale as an opportunity to not lose an important “community hub”.

To end the announcement, he said: “I have put a huge amount of time, effort, heart and hope into making this happen, so being unable to open the doors right now is incredibly frustrating and upsetting.

“I don’t want to make assumptions or comment further on the legal situation while matters are being dealt with, but I will keep everyone updated as soon as I have information that I am able to share.

“Thank you to everyone who has supported me, sent messages, shown interest and believed in what I am trying to build.

“It genuinely means more than you know.

“The Ernehale Pub isn’t giving up and neither am I.”
