Saoirse Ronan is keeping her lips sealed about rumors that her husband, Jack Lowden, could be the next James Bond.
Amid ongoing rumors that Lowden is the frontrunner to take over the lead role in the iconic franchise, Ronan — who married Lowden in 2024 and shares one child with him— told the Associated Press in an interview published Sunday that the speculation is not the most pressing issue in their household.
“Well, Gary Oldman thinks he’s James Bond,” the 32-year-old Irish actor said, referring to the recent stir caused by Lowden’s co-star on Apple TV series Slow Horses.
The Little Women star added that Lowden, 36, being the leading choice to play the secret agent is “its own thing.”
“We’re kinda getting on with our life, to be honest,” she continued. “We have plenty of other things to be dealing with. So, yeah, it’s not really a subject that’s coming up in our house, to be honest. The dog needs to be walked, the dinner needs to be made — we’re most focused on that.”
As fans become more convinced that Lowden might be taking over the role from Daniel Craig for the next 007 movie, which is set to be directed by Dune filmmaker Denis Villeneuve, Ronan previously teased the rumors by throwing her name into the ring to play a Bond villain.
“I said that I wanted to be a Bond villain and I’m dead serious,” the Oscar-nominated actor told Empire magazine in August. “I think it would be really interesting, having a young female villain.”
She added: “Especially for girls and women, to see someone who can just take all that pent-up anger and direct it somewhere, there’s something interesting in that dramatically. So I would love to do more of that.”
Fans have been waiting since 2021 film No Time to Die to find out who will take over the role of Bond, with actors like Callum Turner, Jacob Elordi and Harris Dickinson all reportedly in consideration for the next film, which will be directed by Dune filmmaker Denis Villeneuve.
Rumors pointing at Lowden heated up last month after Oldman said he was hoping the British actor had snagged the role — and then quickly walked back the comments and said he did not know any more than the general public does.
The rumored casting has been divisive, with some in the entertainment industry questioning the move. James Bond author Charlie Higson shared in response to the news that he believed Lowden was an “unconvincing choice.”
Higson added: “Whatever the answer, everyone will be very angry when they find out.”
