Sarah Michelle Gellar had a Buffy reunion and also took a stake to the reboot cancelation news!
The actress was at the 2026 Emmy Awards, where she was joined by her former Buffy the Vampire Slayer costar David Boreanaz in an epic reunion moment. The moment on Sept. 14 marks the first time they’ve reunited in nine years!
They posed for photos together on the red carpet, with Sarah rocking a hot pink backless gown and David in a classic suit.
In the cult classic series, Sarah played the titular character Buffy Summers, and David was her will-they, won’t-they love interest, Angel.
The series also starred Alyson Hannigan, James Marsters, the late Anthony Head, the late Nicholas Brendon and the late Michelle Trachtenberg.
The show ran from 1997 until 2003. It was set to have a reboot titled Buffy: New Sunnydale on Hulu, but fans were shocked when the series was abruptly canceled.
While at the Emmys, Sarah also threw some shade at the cancelation. Onstage, after David said he thought Buffy and Angel were endgame, she said, “Well, I guess we won’t find out!”
Sarah previously spoke out about the cancellation, revealing more about what happened behind the scenes.
“We had an executive on our show who was not only not a fan of the original, but was proud to constantly remind us that he had never seen the entirety of the series and how it wasn’t for him,” she told People in March. “That’s very hard when you’re taking a property that is as beloved as Buffy, not just to the world, but to me and (director) Chloé (Zhao).”
Gellar added of her and the Hamnet director’s years-long journey to bring the show back, “So that tells you the uphill battle that we had been fighting since day one, when your executive is literally proud to tell you that he didn’t watch it.”
