After sparking discussion with an intense trailer, Secret Soldier has now shifted tone with its latest lyrical video, “Oye Oye.”
The trailer had already generated debate with its references to Aurangzeb and A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, using those dialogues to question identity, perception and the way people are judged through labels. That gave the film a serious and provocative edge.
“Oye Oye,” however, takes a lighter route.
The song is built as a social satire, taking a witty dig at people who are quick to judge others, preach morals and conveniently ignore their own shortcomings.
Lines such as “Neethulenno cheppeddaam” and “Gothulenno theeseddaam” capture that hypocrisy with humour, while the recurring “Oye Oye em telivabbayi, anni telusabbayi” gives the song a teasing and sarcastic flavour.
The contrast works in the film’s favour. After a trailer driven by serious questions and debate, the makers are now showing that Secret Soldier also carries humour, irony and social observation.
With the film releasing in theatres on September 18, “Oye Oye” adds a different flavour to the campaign without moving away from the film’s broader theme of how people judge and perceive one another.
