After getting the medicinal herbs from Anca in The Blood of Dawnwalker, she offers for you to stay and study Latin with her, which will take time, or you can go there and then, missing the chance but saving an additional hour before Mass later that day. I’ll run through the best choice below as to whether to stay with Anca, or to go accordingly.
Should you stay with Anca or go in The Blood of Dawnwalker?
After collecting the medicinal herbs from Anca in the opening of The Blood of Dawnwalker, she’ll offer to practice Latin with you to wait out the rain, triggering two potential responses.
- Gladly – I’ve missed it too. (2 time segments)
- I really have to go. (1 time segment)
Of those two, I’d definitely suggest picking the second option and saying that you have to go. Having played both options, there doesn’t appear to be any benefit to burning up time with the former (knowledge of Latin doesn’t really come back up later, and your relationship with Anca doesn’t seem to change). With that in mind, it’s better to keep the extra time segment, so you can do more quests around the village before running out the clock before Mass.

Presumably, the only time that you’d want to pick the option to study Latin would be either if you’re leaning hard into roleplay, or if you’ve played the game before and are happy to speed-run this part of the tutorial. A choice like this reduces the amount you need to do prior to Mass and the game starting properly.
Back out in the village, find out how to find the banner in The Blood of Dawnwalker, or get a reminder of how to brew the medicine in The Blood of Dawnwalker that Anca gave you. More broadly, just make sure you know What to do before sundown Mass and the first day ends!
