Sofie Royer has shared her new album ‘before/after’ in full.
Her fourth album, the path to this release has taken Sofie across oceans, moving from her classical background towards club culture, then onwards to pop.
The Austrian-Iranian artist and producer swapped Europe for the American West Coast, working with Stones Throw and finessing her vision. ‘before/after’ is a glossy alt-pop document, 12 songs dominated by hazy synth vibes and some beatific songwriting aspects.
It’s fun, too – ‘before/after’ may be a journey of personal transformation, but Sofie’s knack for melody means that it entertains at ever turn.
“The older you get, the more cognizant you become of certain patterns in your behavior,” she says of this creative moment. “So you ask, what will it take for me to stop repeating the same things over and over again? But then you find yourself behaving the same way.”
Tune in now.
