Sony State of Play officially confirmed for this week – here’s what to expect | Gaming | Entertainment

Sony has announced that it will be hosting the next State of Play event on September 3, 2026 – that’s Thursday this week. The State of Play is teased to feature ‘updated and announcements from PlayStation Studios’, as well as from its third party partners.

If you want to know what time the State of Play starts this week, here’s what you need to know about when it starts and what to expect.

State of Play start time on September 3

Sony’s State of Play for September 3, 2026 is set to kick off at 2pm BST.

This is a lot earlier than normal, with these PlayStation events normally kicking off around 10pm. Still, as someone who enjoys an early night, I’m not complaining.

Here’s that start time converted to a few other time zones around the world:

What will be shown at the State of Play for September 3?

We don’t yet know exactly how long the State of Play will be, although we do know that it will be separated into two parts.

The first half will be filled with titles from Sony’s first party studios and third party partners in a similar format to what we know and love. Then, the second half will be more focused on titles from studios in Japan and Asia.

As for what games we can expect to be there, a few easy guesses can be made. For example, it’s highly likely that we’ll see more God of War Laufey, as that’s PlayStation’s next big hit scheduled after Marvel’s Wolverine.

Speaking of, we’ll also likely get one last trailer for Insomniac’s take on the Canadian superhero, with Wolverine slated for release on September 15, 2026.

It also wouldn’t surprise me if we see more of Naughty Dog’s next game, Intergalactic. The studio recently shared that it has just wrapped filming on all of its cutscene motion capture, stating that it can’t wait to show fans more ‘when the time is right’.

The one game that we do know will make an appearance is Final Fantasy 7 Revelation. This will be the final game of September 3rd’s State of Play, with Sony promising ‘an extended look at the vast world of Final Fantasy 7 Revelation’.

What game would you most like to see at Sony’s State of Play this week?
