Speculation on Telugu states theatrical rights for Varanasi. Mahesh Babu’s Varanasi is the cynosure of all eyes. The film directed by Rajamouli is slated for a grand release on 7 April 2027. Priyanka Chopra is the female lead in the film which stars Prithviraj Sukumaran in an important role.
Now speculation is increasing on the film’s theatrical rights for the two Telugu states Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. Buzz is the Telugu theatrical rights alone are expected to fetch a whopping Rs 320-325 crs. Pushpa The Rule Telugu rights got a whopping Rs 325crs while RRR got a whopping Rs 422crs. The thetrical rights for Baahubali 2 got Rs 305crs while Kalki 2898AD gor Rs 285crs.
The bigger question is whether Varanasi can recover such a massive investment in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. According to trade, RRR is currently around Rs. 422 crores gross in the Telugu states, while Pushpa 2 is around Rs. 325 crores. Baahubali 2 is close to Rs. 305 crores, and Kalki 2898 AD is around Rs. 285 crores. If Varanasi gets around Rs 325crs in two Telugu rights then it needs Rs 600-70crs for gross and that means it needs Rs 325crs share for breakeven. It seems impossible as Mahesh Babu’s previous films got around just Rs 150crs.
