The Devil Wears Prada star was filming Tucci on Great Britain in Wales all this week

Hollywood star Stanley Tucci visited a Cardiff market stall known for its massive queues and delicious bakes while filming the latest series of his hit travel and food show.
The Devil Wears Prada and The Hunger Games actor popped by the stall earlier this week to sample some of Cardiff Bakestone’s freshly made Welsh cakes. The traditional Welsh sweet treat stall attracts locals and visitors daily and there’s rarely no queue at peak times as people snake around the stalls in the Victorian venue.
Tucci – a massive food lover and accomplished chef – has been filming his National Geographic TV series, which airs on Disney +, around the UK. This UK-based series follows on from the Italy-focused first series, Tucci in Italy, which takes the actor on a tour of exceptional and local foods and specialities.
Tucci On Great Britain was announced by the 65-year-old via his Instagram in June – but no detail as to where it would take him, just that Stanley would be going on another “culinary adventure” and that the show would be coming “soon.” For the latest restaurant news and reviews, sign up to our food and drink newsletter here
During the show’s stop in Wales the production took him to Cardiff’s Indoor Market and we caught up with the stall-owner of Cardiff Bakestones, Adam El Tagoury who managed to bag a photo with the Emmy and Golden Globe-winning actor.
Adam told WalesOnline: “They were filming a new series touring the UK and trying all the local dishes specific to those areas. Obviously had to come to us for the best Welsh cakes.”
Bakestones makes and sells up to (approximately) 1200 Welsh cakes – and up to 1500 on a day like St David’s Day – per day, so it was a no-brainer that Tucci on Great Britain would call by to try one of Wales’ best sweet treats.
Adam teased; “He had a variety of Welsh cakes and seemed to enjoy them all but you’ll have to wait for the series which will be aired on Disney+ next year I believe, for a full reaction.”
Bakestones was started by Adam’s dad, Jamal El Tagoury two decades ago in Pontypridd as part of a cafe and bakery before he turned to focus solely on Welsh cakes using a recipe that had been passed down to his wife and co-owner, Gaynor from her mother – and her mother’s mother. They also have stalls in Merthyr Tydfil at Trago Mills and St Tydfil Market.
Stanley was also spotted filming Tucci on Great Britain down in Pembrokeshire this week. He was seen on High Street in Narberth outside J O Griffiths Butchers, reports the Western Telegraph.
