Daedalic Entertainment and developer gameXcite have given fans more reasons to jump into Star Trek: Voyager – Across the Unknown with the release of a free update containing the Q Trials roguelite mode and the game’s second DLC, Equinox. Learn more about the Q Trials in the new video below…
The Q Trials provides players with the chance to experience the game like never before. Q, being the omnipotent nuisance he is, sets players with the challenge of embarking on a series of increasingly difficult runs through the Delta Quadrant. These challenges are shaped by procedural events and random goals set across the sector. Successful completion of these challenges will see Q give players the choice of three rewards, such as resources, new heroes or new technologies
Each new run provides new opportunities to adapt to the challenges with the use of various “Q Modifiers”, such as double capacity of crew quarters in exchange for increased sickness, or additional morale at the expense of reduced building speed. Adaptation to these modifiers will help players find their way through Q’s latest challenge.
The Equinox DLC unlocks the science vessel U.S.S. Equinox as an alternate playable ship for use in Q Trials. This vessel is considerably smaller than Voyager, with a lower crew capacity and smaller warp power, so players will need to make tougher decisions as they pass through the Delta Quadrant.
There are also three recruitable heroes for Q Trials added with the DLC, these are:
- Captain Rudolph Ransom, captain of the U.S.S. Equinox and an accomplished xenobiologist.
- First Officer Maxwell Burke, a pragmatic Starfleet officer with a sharp technical mind.
- Crewman Noah Lessing, a dedicated crewman whose loyalty and resolve are tested by the ship’s desperate situation.
The DLC exclusive questline is “Spirits of Good Fortune” and allows players to experience the crew’s story firsthand. There’s all manner of troubles for the crew of a ship that was never designed for such a journey. There are problems with the militaristic Krowtonan Guard, encounters with the Ankari and the mysterious beings, and all manner of dangerous temptations.
