Strictly Come Dancing fans have been pleasantly surprised after deciding that a supposed “feud” between two dancers now seems to be over. The BBC competition will return to screens on September 19 and this year, stars such as EastEnders icon Lacey Turner, Love Island winner Dani Dyer and Kim Kardashian’s hairdresser Chris Appleton all heading into the famous ballroom.
On Saturday, a trailer for the upcoming series was released onto social media, and as part of the teaser, long-serving professionals Nancy Xu and Carlos Gu were seen dancing together. When Carlos, 33, lifted the Glitterball Trophy last year with footballer Karen Carney, viewers became convinced that he and Nancy no longer got on and insiders claimed that things “were awkward” on set.
But now, all that appears to be over as the pair danced together in the new footage, and fans were quick to react to the apparent reconciliation.
One fan wrote on X: “Carlos and nancy dancing together again in The trailer wonderful to see,” and another said: “Nancy and Carlos together again healed something in my soul.”
A third wrote: “Watch again he’s dancing with Nancy as well as next to Motsi,” and a fourth said: “Omg Carlos and Nancy dancing together again.”
It’s also thought that Nancy will not be chosen to dance with a celebrity this year, and another fan mused: “Yeah it’s rotten they are benching Nancy again if true…. I do wonder if it’s to due with the falling out between Carlos & Nancy. If so production needs to just push them to make up already…”
Nancy, 35, and Carlos had been close friends for decades but in 2024, insiders revealed the pair were no longer on speaking terms, which Carlos later confirmed for the first time.
He told the Daily Mail: “We’re fine. We’ve been friends since childhood, and friends argue, we’re too close and are like brother and sister to completely fall out.”
Following the final, Nancy appeared to offer an olive branch as she shared behind the scenes photos of the episode. “CONGRATULATIONS FOR ALL THE FINAL couples! And Well‑deserved Winer @kazcarney and Carlos,” she added. However, Nancy was unable to ‘tag’ Carlos directly as they have unfollowed each other on social media.
Despite the public reassurances, the situation backstage between the pair had reportedly become uncomfortable. A source told previously told The Sun: “They’ve been close since childhood, but have fallen out and unfollowed each other on socials. The atmosphere on set is said to be awkward and tense when both are around.”
Another insider confirmed to MailOnline, “Carlos and Nancy are extremely cordial and always incredibly professional on Strictly premises.”
This year’s Strictly Come Dancing will have a different feel entirely, with brand news hosts Johannes Radebe, Emma Willis and Josh Widdicombe having taken the reins from Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman.
As part of a huge revamp, bosses also axed long-standing professionals Karen Hauer, Gorka Márquez, Nadiya Bychkova, Luba Mushtuk, and Michelle Tsiakkas in favour of new talent. Former Strictly contestant Ellie Taylor replaces Janette Manrara and Fleur East on It Takes Two.
