Suchika Tariyal Loses MMA Semifinal, Wins Historic Bronze For India

India MMA fighter Suchika Tariyal has secured a historic bronze medal for India in the ongoing edition of the Asian Games 2026 at the Aichi-Nagoya after her run in the women’s Traditional 60kg MMA event ended in the semifinals. Tariyal suffered a defeat against Singapore’s Teo Hui Hoon in the semi-final clash, but her quarterfinal victory had already guaranteed her a place on the podium. The Indian fighter had defeated Mongolia’s Altanchimeg Baigalmaa in the quarterfinal to assure India of its first-ever Asian Games medal in mixed martial arts. With MMA making its Asian Games debut at Aichi-Nagoya 2026, Tariyal’s bronze represents a landmark moment for Indian MMA. Her medal also gives India MMA its first podium finish in the sport at the continental multi-sport event.
