It is more than two and a half years before the Assembly and Lok Sabha elections in Andhra Pradesh, yet certain local and national agencies have already started conducting surveys in the name of gauging the mood of the nation and the people’s pulse, obviously to generate some kind of debate in political circles.
Take the case of the latest India Today-CVoter Mood of the Nation survey, which has projected a strong performance for the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in Andhra Pradesh if Lok Sabha elections were held now, while also indicating shifts in the political landscape across several states.
The survey, covering the period from July 1 to August 25, assessed voter sentiment and projected the possible outcome of an immediate Lok Sabha election.
According to the survey, in Andhra Pradesh, where the TDP-led coalition government has completed two years in office, the NDA could win 20 of the State’s 25 Lok Sabha seats if elections were held at present.
It said the TDP and Jana Sena together could secure 18 to 19 seats, while the BJP could win between one and three seats. The YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) has been projected to win four to five seats.
The latest projection marks a decline from the January 2026 India Today-CVoter Mood of the Nation survey, which had projected 24 Lok Sabha seats for the NDA in Andhra Pradesh.
In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the TDP won 16 seats, the BJP won three and Jana Sena won two, while the YSRCP secured four seats.
Interestingly, another survey was reportedly conducted in August by an organisation called IITians Group, based in Hyderabad, under the title Mood of Andhra Pradesh.
According to the figures circulating from that survey, the YSRCP could win 83 Assembly seats, while the ruling coalition could secure 62, with a close contest projected in the remaining constituencies.
The same survey reportedly gave Jagan Mohan Reddy 44 per cent support as the preferred Chief Minister, followed by Chandrababu Naidu with 32 per cent, Pawan Kalyan with six per cent and Nara Lokesh with five per cent.
The contrasting projections have triggered considerable political discussion in Andhra Pradesh, though it is still too premature to make such predictions.
“The final outcome will depend on various factors, including the sustainability of the alliance, the growth of anti-incumbency and possible changes in party leadership,” an analyst said.
