Around 500 independent restaurants and takeaways across 22 award categories enter the semi-finals of the UK’s leading celebration of the kebab industry, as the awards mark their 15th anniversary

Twenty five Welsh kebab shops have reached the semi-finals of The British Kebab Awards. Takeaways from Bangor to Ystrad Mynach, Cardiff to Wrexham are in the running right now for best in Wales at the 15th anniversary awards which will take place in February 2026 at London’s Park Plaza, Westminster.
Around 500 independent restaurants and takeaways from across the United Kingdom have reached the semi-finals across 22 award categories, including Best Newcomer, Best Delivery, Best Vegan Kebab and awards celebrating Turkish, Kurdish,Greek, Lebanese, Middle Eastern, Mediterranean and Kosher cuisine.
The semi-finalists were selected from thousands of public nominations received from across the country. Wales’ winner earlier this year was Golden BBQ on Caerphilly Road. Appearing in the list once more, Golden BBQ kebab house has previously taken the title of Wales Kebab House of the Year in 2018, 2019, 2022 and this year, 2026 (it was also highly commended in 2025). It has been perfecting its wares for almost 20 years – since owner Mustafa Ocak took over what was a pizza takeaway back in 2008. You can read Mustafa’s story, here.

Other previous winners making it through to the 15th awards semi final include 2025’s best kebab shop, Pizza Choice in Cardiff and 2026’s joint winner alongside Golden BBQ, Wrexham’s Chip-o-Dee.

Every semi-finalist will now have until October 15 2026 to campaign for public support and encourage their customers, local communities and other supporters to vote for them.
Businesses receiving the highest number of eligible public votes in their respective categories will progress to the final, with the finalists formally announced on October 15.

“Being named a semi-finalist is a significant achievement. Each business now has until 15 October to tell its story, engage with its customers and community, and secure as many publicvotes as possible.”
