The Best Brown Skirts for Fall 2026, in Every Shade From Caramel to Chocolate

The Best Brown Skirts for Fall 2026, in Every Shade From Caramel to Chocolate

The seasons each have their own color schemes. Winter is white, but also deeper hues like emerald and burgundy. Spring is for pastels, summer for primary colors. Fall, on the other hand, is brown. Brown like chestnuts, falling leaves, and the caramel-covered apples we so enjoy this time of year. Along with coats and boots in the shade, a brown skirt feels integral to dressing for the season.

But in fall 2026 there seems to be a newfound style obsession with brown skirts. Short, midi, or maxi, we’re seeing more cool options than ever before. Wear them with pumps or ballet flats, but also boots—there’s a skirt to suit every style and mood. They’re sleek, minimalist, flowing, asymmetrical, or adorned with hippie-chic fringe. They come in shades ranging from dark chocolate to café au lait, from tobacco to caramel. The strength of the brown skirt in 2026 lies precisely in its versatility. It’s elegant, without any ostentation or edge.

Amid a palette of earth tones—from sand to rust, caramel to chocolate—the brown skirt made an appearance on countless fall-winter 2026–2027 runways. Ralph Lauren chose a wool maxiskirt that paired perfectly with a dark chocolate turtleneck. Max Mara also focused on the maxiskirt, showcasing a minimalist, form-fitting, and decidedly sexy cut. The style choices from Balmain and Luisa Spagnoli were different but equally elegant. Balmain showed a draped midiskirt with a maxi side slit on the runway, playing with volumes and contrasts, while Luisa Spagnoli focused on layering, demonstrating how the combination of a turtleneck, a shirt, a blazer, and a (brown) wrap skirt is one of the chicest combinations one could do.
