For much of the season, the elder son of the Horniman family, Freddy, has been absent, as he is spending time at rehab. It turns out the rehabilitation facility is run by Gospel John (Pearce Quigley), who has been controlling Freddy and poisoning his mind against his brother. The premiere episode of The Gentlemen famously showed the late Duke leaving the title and estate to his more dependable younger son, Eddie, over the protestations of Freddy. Gospel John also holds Freddy responsible for the death of his brother and sees this as a way to drive a wedge further between the two brothers.
