The Godfather Meets Sicario in Former Bond Star's Action Thriller That's Conquering Streaming

An action thriller that’s equal parts The Godfather and Sicario is making a name for itself on streaming platforms. 2025’s Violent Ends, which stars James Bond alum Billy Magnussen, is performing well on Hulu.

According to data from FlixPatrol, Violent Ends is currently in the top 15 of most-streamed TV shows and movies on Hulu in the United States. The action thriller sits just behind some heavy hitters like MasterChef, General Hospital, and the hit anime Bleach.

Violent Ends Flew Under the Radar After Its Release

Originally released in 2025 in select cinemas, Violent Ends follows Lucas Frost (Magnussen), a man trying to escape his family and its ties to an Arkansas drug empire. Frost’s fiancée, Emma, is killed in a local robbery gone wrong, and he decides to go after those involved on his own. What follows is Frost looking for vengeance in his own way.

Alongside Magnussen, Violent Ends also stars James Badge Dale, Kate Burton, Ray McKinnon, Nick Stahl, and Alexandra Shipp. The movie was written and directed by John-Michael Powell, who previously directed 2022’s The Send-Off.

With its limited release, Violent Ends didn’t gross much at the box office, only making $185,000. However, it received mostly positive reviews, garnering a 68% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and a 66% audience score. Reviews of the movie highlighted Magnussen and Dale’s performances, with their scenes together being standout moments.

Billy Magnussen Has Two Big Projects Out This Year

Magnussen is known for a litany of high-profile features throughout the years. He’s been in movies like Game Night, Bridge of Spies, the live-action adaptation of Lilo & Stitch, and also appeared in the 2021 James Bond movie No Time to Die. Currently, Magnussen also stars in the AMC dark comedy-drama The Audacity, which has been renewed for a second season.

Magnussen is set to star in The Social Reckoning, the follow-up to The Social Network, which is written and directed by Aaron Sorkin. After that, he’ll star in Buzzkill, a horror-comedy about a town plagued by a monster only drunk people can see.

Though merely wishful thinking, some also hope to see Magnussen play Booster Gold in the DC Universe. Magnussen has previously said he’s “been aware of Booster [Gold since] probably at the beginning of the whole superhero movement,” but that “I’m not in that world. There’s this weird red tape around it to get into it,” he explained. “I’ve just never been able to crack that nut with it.” Of course, with the current version of the Booster Gold TV series scrapped, there may not be a need for anyone to play Booster Gold at all.
