If you have a Prime Video subscription or indeed access to the internet at all, then there’s a pretty good chance you’ll be well aware of The Love Hypothesis, the streamer’s hotly anticipated adaptation of Ali Hazelwood’s romance novel — a book that famously started life as a work of Reylo (yes, that’s Rey and Kylo Ren off of Star Wars) fan-fiction. And if you have seen said movie, which stars Lili Reinhart and actual Rey actor Daisy Ridley’s actual husband Tom Bateman, then you’ll know it’s actually a pretty fun rom-com. And clearly Hazelwood’s publishers and Amazon MGM Studios agree, as the author has today confirmed that a sequel book, The Two-Body Problem, is on its way, with a follow-up film currently in development, too. Per Hazelwood’s own tease of The Two-Body Problem book, which is due out on February 2, 2027, the sequel — once again following lovebirds Olive and Adam (yes, the Reylo fanfic’s male romantic lead is called Adam) — “spans a couple of years, and it’s a mix of slice of life, postdoctoral turmoil, and unflinching exploration of the hardest challenge one will face in a long-term relationship: deciding what to have for dinner.” As for the follow-up book’s cinematic ambitions, Hazelwood is quick to state that “nothing is guaranteed” at this stage. That being said, given the instant streaming success of director Claire Scanlon’s adaptation, the many, many clips filling social media feeds right now (yes, we have all seen the ‘Rey Theme’ moment and the bajillion Reylo edits dominating TikTok), and the recent times resurgence of rom-coms in the mainstream (see also: Voicemails For Isabelle, One Night Only, Office Romance, Finding Emily), it seems a pretty safe bet The Two-Body Problem won’t represent a two-movie problem for Prime Video.
A BookTok sensation and a New York Times bestseller, The Love Hypothesis — like Twilight fanfic adaptation Fifty Shades Of Greybefore it — has proven a force (or, more aptly, a Force) to be reckoned with among movie-watching, book-loving romantics. And now, with a sequel book on the way, another film in the works, and — in case we forget to mention — the Daisy Ridley on board on the producorial side of things, we hypothesise that the love for the burgeoning franchise is only set to grow and grow. And just know this, Love Hypothesis-pilled Reylos: you are not alone.
