The Mummy 4 Officially Reveals First Look at Brendan Fraser's Return as Rick O'Connell

Oscar-winning actor Brendan Fraser is finally revisiting one of his most iconic roles in The Mummy 4. Filming is currently underway, and new images from the set have revealed the first look at Fraser’s official return as Rick O’Connell.

On Sept. 29, new images first published by Page Six revealed Fraser on the set of The Mummy 4. The photos showcase a good look at Fraser holding a helmet and wearing a black leather jacket with dark clothing. The back of one actor’s shirt has a logo that reads “Rick O’Connell Racing,” suggesting the character has since become a racecar driver since the events of the previous Mummy movies. Some of the images also reveal a look at his unique rocket car, though a stunt double appears to be behind the wheel.

Rachel Weisz’s Return Has Also Been Revealed in Set Photos

The new batch of photos also come with another look at Rachel Weisz returning to the role of Evelyn. She is standing in front of the British Museum wearing clothing reminiscent of the era. Over the weekend, other images from the set of Weisz filming that scene started circulating online. This is a major return for the franchise that many fans thought would never happen, as Weisz left the franchise after 2001’s The Mummy Returns. Her role as Evelyn was recast for the third movie, The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, with Maria Bello taking over the part.

While plot details haven’t been shared for The Mummy 4, what’s known is that it will ignore the events of Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, instead serving as a legacy sequel to The Mummy and The Mummy Returns. Radio Silence’s Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett (Scream franchise, Ready or Not franchise) are directing the new film, which was written by David Coggeshall (Orphan: First Kill). Fraser is serving as an executive producer on the project, while franchise vet Sean Daniel is also coming back to produce.

The Legacy Sequel Brings Back Other Stars

Other stars of the franchise are returning for the new sequel. Curiously, that even includes Kevin J. O’Connor as Beni Gabor, a character who was killed off in the original movie. Other confirmed returns include Oded Fehr as Ardeth Bay, John Hannah as Jonathan Carnahan, and Arnold Vosloo as Imhotep. Fraser has teased that this new film is going to give fans something they have wanted since the original movies.

“I’m doing my best to get this 57-year-old gear in shape,” he recently told Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show. “We’re going to give the audience what they have been bothering all of us for the last 20-whatever years. What we’re going to do is saddle back up, go back to the locations.”

The Mummy 4 will be released in movie theaters on Oct. 15, 2027.
