Babies born in 2016 are about to enter their final year of primary school, and the popularity of their names have grown with them. Some beautiful names are still coming in strong, continuously making the annual top 10 lists, but some have fallen off in favour of rising and trendy alternatives.
What influences baby names changes rapidly, with movies, films, actors and even cultural events shaping the next generation of names. However, a handful of names remain top of the ranking sometimes decades after they first started to appear on the scene.
With the baby boom of 2016 celebrating their 10th birthdays, we looked back at what was the most popular names of boys and girls a decade ago.
