Real-life politicians navigate a staged attack on the UK in this televised wargame

In 2025 Sky News released The Wargame, a podcast that imagined what would happen if Russia attacked the UK, using real-world politicians to act out the aftermath and escalation. It makes for chilling listening, especially when it makes you realise how ill-prepared this country is for large scale conventional warfare – and how quickly the options narrow down a response involving personnel and munitions to a nuclear one.
This is the five-part TV equivalent, with real-world figures navigating the crisis on the UK side including Michael Gove, Penny Mordaunt, Harriet Harman, General Sir Richard Barrons and, somewhat surprisingly, Nicola Sturgeon. Also making an appearance is Anthony ‘The Mooch’ Scaramucci, who was once Donald Trump’s communications director for ten days – a tenure that, it has to be said, actually paints him in a favourable light.
We see the game from both the UK and the Russian side and, as it goes on, the reality of it all becomes more and more chilling. Don’t watch this one before bedtime. (Five parts)
