Despite its modern associations with women’s pieces, the Happy Diamonds collection actually has its roots in the men’s section. Back in 1976, in the midst of the Quartz Crisis, Chopard released the model that inspired this new piece. Legend has it that the manufacturer’s designer, Ronald Kurowski, got the idea for the watch after taking a walk in the Black Forest and seeing the sunlight sparkle on the surface of a waterfall. (I’d assumed it was more of a Hungry Hungry Hippos situation, but Kurowski’s story is nice, too.)
