‘Tinkering With Voting Rights Is Unconstitutional’: Justice Bhuyan’s Big Remark On ‘Disenfranchising Millions’

Speaking at the closing ceremony of a moot court competition at NALSAR University of Law in Hyderabad, he said India’s Constitution does not create two kinds of citizens, those who can vote and those who can’t, according to Bar & Bench. He added that any process that removes the voting rights of large numbers of people would break Articles 14 and 326, which guarantee equality and the right of adults to vote and excuses that point to other people’s wrongdoing, can’t justify it. “No authority can do it; no court can condone it. No one is above the Constitution,” he said.
