Tom Ellis has been a fixture on the small screen ever since his breakout turn in the BBC One sitcom Miranda, but U.S. audiences wouldn’t be fully exposed to his talents until a few years later, when he arrived stateside on network television. He first enjoyed a guest appearance as Robin Hood on an episode of ABC’s Once Upon a Time before going on to embody the titular Lucifer Morningstar in the hit urban fantasy mystery procedural, Lucifer. The DC-inspired series helped catapult him into a pop culture icon across six seasons between Fox and Netflix, ending at last in 2021. He hasn’t stayed away from network television for too long since, just last year joining the wider FBI universe with its new spy-centric spin-off, CIA, and finding immediate success as loose cannon agent Colin Glass.
CIA premiered this winter after a tumultuous production that saw multiple showrunners depart, the loss of one of its key stars, and delays that kept it out of the fall lineup. Despite the adversity, it premiered to a strong 8.4 million viewers and was swiftly renewed for Season 2 after just five episodes. Under showrunner Mike Weiss, it delivered a story of intrigue, pairing FBI Agent Bill Goodman (Nick Gehlfuss) with CIA agent Glass as part of a joint task force with both offices to combine their expertise against the greatest domestic terrorism threats and other enemies operating on U.S. soil. The odd-couple pair will soon be back in action in just two weeks, and before then, CBS has shared new details of what’s to come in the first few episodes.
The official storyline and new images for Season 2, Episode 2, “Dead Drop,” have been revealed, teasing Bill and Colin’s latest team-up with a Russian spy out for revenge. One shot sees the pair meeting discreetly with Viktor Molotov, played by Gene Farber, who was poisoned by his supposed comrades. Dying from the attack, he offers to help them take out a major threat to U.S. assets as long as they agree to aid him in fulfilling his final wish for revenge. Acting on his intel will likely be dangerous, though, as another image finds Colin and CIA analyst Gina Gosian (Natalee Linez) crouching down behind a vehicle to keep out of sight. This episode is set to debut on Monday, October 12.

‘CIA’ Season 2 Is Kicking Off With Another ‘FBI’ Crossover

Like its inaugural run, which saw Jeremy Sisto‘s Jubal Valentine welcome the by-the-book Bill into the world of espionage, Season 2 will also start with a crossover. The team will bring in John Boyd‘s FBI Special Agent Stuart Scola for some backup in the first episode during a tense operation to stop a cartel fixer in New York City. There’s more to the case than meets the eye after they find the body of a DEA agent in the criminal’s wake, and it becomes a race against time to stop any more high-profile murders. Colin and Bill will also reunite after the latter left work temporarily due to the death of his father, but he also makes a stunning discovery in his return that will shape the premiere.
